Alibaba launches electric car startup in China
November 29, 2020Alibaba and carmaker SAIC announced the creation of a new firm Zhiji Motor, which will focus on the production of electric vehicles.
Initially, it is planned to invest more than $ 1.5 billion in this startup. The partners are going to produce high-class electric cars, which will be able to gain the first 100 kph in 4 seconds.
Electric vehicles of the new company will have a high level of autonomy and the ability to connect to the Internet. This will require the support of Alibaba, which has several large Internet sites like Alibaba, Taobao and Youku, and is able to work with large amounts of information.
According to assumptions, the presentation of the debut electric car Zhiji Motor will take place in January next year, and the premiere will be organized in several places at once: in Shanghai, London and North America. Consequently, the brand initially plans to appear on the world market, and not only in the PRC.
In addition, it was noted some time ago that Maserati will switch to electricity all its own cars by 2025. It should be emphasized that the first car with electric power will be the luxury SUV Maserati Grecale.
