According to the already established tradition, the president of the Japanese company takes the wheel of the most interesting upcoming new products of the brand, and he does it not for the sake of public relations, but of sincere interest: the head of Toyota Motor is a fan of sports cars.

Following reports that Toyota will take part in subsequent seasons of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race with a new regulation, a video is published, which presents a prototype being tested. It is known that there are two experimental machines: one is designed for the race, and the second is the civilian version.

Toyoda got behind the wheel of the GR Super Sport – he will replace the TS050 Hybrid. Toyota gives only general comments on this video. It is not completely clear whether the prototype of a civilian or racing car is presented on it, and the car itself is shown so that it is more difficult to consider it in detail.

It is assumed that the power of the GR Super Sport will be slightly less than 1,000 hp. This figure will be obtained using a combined power plant, but there are no details about it. The current TS050 Hybrid is powered by a 2.4-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine with two electric motors, its power is 986 hp.

Starting from the season 2020-2021. The World Endurance Racing Championship will undergo major changes. The new class LMP1 will be replaced by a new one called “Hypercars”. In short – new cars will be bigger, heavier, but less powerful. In particular, the power is limited to 708 kW (950 hp). The changes will affect both monodrive petrol prototypes and all-wheel drive hybrids, in detail they will differ markedly.

According to preliminary data, Toyota will build from 20 to 100 hypercars in the civilian version.
