Acura will abandon the production of a large sedan RLXMay 15, 2020
The reason that prompted the brand to make such a decision is the low demand for this flagship sedan in the American car market. Acura will part with this model until the end of this year.
The North American car market will leave the Acura RLX sedan. The Japanese brand will cease production of this model by the end of the year. It is noted that in other regional markets, for example, in the home, Acura RLX will be sold, but under a different name – Honda Legend. The company is discontinuing this sedan to focus on its key models, including the RDX and MDX crossovers. As for sales of Acura RLX in the USA, they have been showing negative dynamics for several years in a row.
So, in 2013 dealers sold over 5,000 of these machines, and in 2015 this model sold only 1,5 thousand copies. In 2018, sales grew slightly – to the level of 1,931 cars, but next year the demand for the sedan fell again – 1,019 units.
For comparison, last year 63,000 and 52,000 customers, respectively, opted for the RDX and MDX models.
Recall, the current Acura RLX is sold in two versions. This front-wheel drive sedan receives a 314-horsepower V6 engine of 3.5 liters, combined with 10AKPP. The hybrid version receives a V6 3.5 and three electric motors at once. Such a power plant produces 382 hp. In the role of the transmission here is the 7-speed “robot” DCT. The cost of Acura RLX starts at $ 54,900. A hybrid sedan will cost more – from $ 61,900.
