Acura patented TLX sedan imagesMay 2, 2020
The all-new Acura TLX is one of the most anticipated cars of the Japanese luxury brand.
Responsibility for the increased interest in the Acura mid-size sedan rests with the “sensual” Acura Type S concept, introduced in August 2019 at Pebble Beach. An elegant prototype demonstrated both the regular version of TLX and TLX Type S, and, notably, most of the appearance of the Type S concept will be preserved on the new TLX and especially on the TLX Type S. These patent images leave no doubt about this.
What we see in these official images is most likely the regular Acura TLX 2021 model year, because it lacks typical Type S elements, such as an overly aggressive front bumper with large air intakes, a rear diffuser with four exhausts and a spoiler . Despite this, he looks quite sporty, while maintaining an elegant appearance and proportion.
Although there is not much official information about the new TLX and TLX Type S, it is known that both will be backed up by a new platform specially developed for them. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder Honda Accord petrol unit is expected to become the base engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive will be standard, but the AWD option will also be available.
As for the top-end version of Acura TLX Type S, it is expected that power will come from a completely new V6 twin-cylinder engine with significantly more power than the current naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 TLX at 290 hp. and 361 Nm of torque. AWD will come standard on Type S. Acura is due to introduce a brand new TLX this summer, and the TypeX TLX will be available early in 2021.
