Acura brings Type S Concept to Los AngelesNovember 24, 2019
Unlike the teaser campaign, now the manufacturer has stated bluntly: the car is a harbinger of a second-generation TLX sedan, which will have a “charged” Type S variation in the range.
Type S designs are back in the Acura range after more than a decade’s break. The last time this designation was received sedan Acura TL Type S 2007-2008. It was driven by a V6 3.5 engine with 290 forces, which was assisted by a six-speed manual transmission, Brembo four-piston calipers, a modified sports suspension and other tires with tires.
On the serial Acura TLX Type S there will be a new turbo six, built taking into account the experience of working on the supercharged unit of the latest generation Acura NSX supercar. From the TLX Type S we expect a return above 300 hp. But the parameters of the Type S concept are not disclosed. But the representatives of the brand emphasize its sporting inclinations, manifested in wide tires, ruts and arches, four-piston Brembo calipers, as well as in the use of the so-called forged carbon fiber in the splitter, sills, spoiler and wheels.
The concept was developed by Acura Design Studio in California, led by executive creative director Dave Marek and chief designer Ben Davidson. He has an important mission – to show that the brand again focuses on the performance of models. The return of serial versions of Type S to the brand’s program is designed to support the spirit of the current Acura DNA, called Precision Crafted Performance. The company added that in the next two years it will introduce two Type S cars. The first, apparently, will be a TLX sedan, which will appear in 2020.
