ABT introduced a 365-horsepower crossover Cupra FormentorJanuary 21, 2021
Cupra and Abt teamed up to form a team for the first season of Extreme E later this year. Cupra’s new partner has made the Formentor sport utility vehicle lower and faster.
The Cupra Formentor is the latest Volkswagen Group model to be Abt after last year’s Audi Q5 55 TFSIe with 419 hp. and a heavily modified version of the Audi RS4 Performance Estate. The German tuner is subjecting the most powerful petrol version of the Cupra crossover to a serious “energy purification”.
Formentor dominates the Cupra lineup. The crossover, currently the only Cupra without a similar Seat version, will be available in two plug-in hybrid versions, as well as a top-end gasoline engine. The last option is the 310 hp Cupra Formentor, which was upgraded by the tuner Abt.
Abt boosts the power of the 2.0-liter TSI from 310 hp. and 400 Nm to 370 hp. and 450 Nm of torque. Additional power of 60 HP and 50 Nm comes from a module called “Abt Engine Control” and helps Cupra Formentor reach a speed of 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds, while the 310-hp original is able to accelerate to the first 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. As Abt points out, this makes it almost as fast as the Porsche 718 Boxster GTS.
Abt wouldn’t be Abt if it hadn’t improved the look of the Cupra Formentor, although the changes are fairly limited. The company will optionally fit 20-inch alloy wheels to the Formentor and will add its own version of the exhaust system with four 10.2-inch tailpipes this quarter. New springs are also offered for the Formentor active suspension system, which provide a 35mm drop in ride height for a more aggressive stance.
