For the new generation of SUV Land Rover Defender will be made many versions. However, there will be no pickup among them. A company representative said that still such a car could be presented, but another brand will be engaged in its development.

The all-new generation of the British SUV Land Rover Defender, which will be available as a 2020 model year car, is very important for the British automaker. The model is based on the same D7U architecture with an aluminum monocoque that underlies other modern Land Rover models, such as the Discovery SUV and Range Rover. However, the new platform has a drawback – it cannot accommodate a pickup truck.

But this does not mean at all that those who want a truck based on the new Defender should lose hope. In an interview with a foreign magazine, Mark Cameron, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Australia, said that such a performance model is under consideration.

The chances of a pickup in the wide family of the new Land Rover Defender can be obtained at the expense of another automaker. Mr. Cameron noted the significant research and development costs that car companies face: electric and autonomous vehicles, hybrids, more efficient transmissions, and new body types cost a lot of money. Cameron also pointed out how Land Rover collaborated with the Bavarian brand BMW to develop electric vehicles. This means that we could see that Land Rover will again partner with another automaker to create a Defender pickup truck, which would be better than no pickup at all.

For these purposes, Land Rover can also collaborate with several other automakers. Last year, there were rumors about the development of a Defender truck with a single cab that could compete with the Mercedes X-Class. However, since then there has been no news about this.

In an interview, Cameron said that the Land Rover Defender pickup could have enjoyed great success in certain countries, such as the United States, Australia, etc.
