Several large Western companies are in the final stages of testing electric air taxis. It looks like they will soon have a strong competitor in the face of the Chinese Autoflight, which has presented a drone with a flight range of up to 1000 km.

The V400 Albatross drone was announced as part of the 2020 World Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Conference in Shenzhen. The development belongs to the Chinese company Autoflight, which specializes in heavy drones. The novelty is equipped with a vertical take-off and landing system, and is also fully autonomous. But most importantly, the manufacturer announced plans to create an urban air taxi on its basis.

The V400 Albatross received a 6.7 meter long, 1.1 meter high carbon composite body and a 9 meter wingspan. It is capable of carrying a maximum load of up to 100 kg over a distance of 300 km. At the same time, a hybrid model with a power reserve of up to 1000 km will be available. The maximum flight altitude will be 5 km. The electric version will get two motors, one at the front and one at the back of the drone. In the hybrid model, the combustion engine will replace the electric one at the rear.

Autoflight said the new drone will be used in places where ground transportation is restricted. It is especially emphasized that it has autonomous control with a full-fledged system of sensors and radars for landing and takeoff. In addition, the system is capable of avoiding obstacles and works on the basis of wireless technologies, being able to switch between 4G / 5G modes. The exact timing of the entry into the commercial market of the drone and air taxi based on it has not yet been announced.
