700 thousand tons of batteries will be processed in 15 yearsAugust 11, 2020
With the increase in the number of electric vehicles, there are more and more unresolved issues. This applies to all batteries that are about to fail. French expert on recycling SNAM draws attention to emerging problems.
According to the French edition, SNAM is preparing for major changes that await us in the coming years. The French company SNAM is one of the greatest experts in the field of recycling. She already has extensive experience in special disposal of batteries. Toxic and rare acids must be recycled appropriately.
“We expect about 50,000 tonnes of batteries to be recycled in Europe by 2027. However, by 2035, we expect a dizzying growth to 700,000 tonnes, ”said Kristel Boris, chairman of the company’s strategic committee, noting that currently only 15,000 tonnes of batteries are processed throughout Europe.
The French government has demanded that 50% of the lithium-ion batteries be recycled. The SNAM director says his company’s share is currently over 70%. SNAM, with 120 employees, will recycle 600 tons of batteries from electrified vehicles 20 kilometers outside Lyon. Thus, in the coming years, they will have to do a tremendous job of recycling all current and future batteries for electric vehicles and hybrids.
