50 y.o. Rolls-Royce gets a Tesla engineAugust 10, 2020
Tuning company Shift EV for a private client will install a Tesla Model S engine in the 1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. For 50 years, the sedan traveled over 200 thousand km, and it needed a complete restoration.
The atelier on Monday, August 10, reported that in addition to the electric motor and batteries, specialists have equipped the sedan with some modern technologies from the Model S, such as anti-lock braking system, air conditioning, traction control system and electric power steering. The exterior of the hand-assembled sedan has hardly changed.
A 330-horsepower Tesla Model S electric liftback with a set of 75 kWh batteries was used as a “donor”. The electric car did not go out on the roads: it was purchased specifically for the “transfer”. Difficulties arose immediately when the studio specialists found out that the Silver Shadow is 250 mm narrower than Tesla. They were forced to install the electric motor under the bottom of the rear, behind the battery, and the engine compartment, where the L410 V8 was located, remained empty. To preserve the authentic interior, the screens of the infotainment complex and “tidy” were placed in the luggage compartment.
Now Silver Shadow is able to cover a distance of more than 320 km on a single charge. As a result of modernization, the sedan became much faster, better controlled and slowed down.
In addition, it was recently noted that a modified Land Rover Defender was put up for sale. The specialists of the Chelsea Truck Company tuning company were engaged in the refinement of this British SUV.
