Olive hatchback in factory condition is looking for a new collector

A perfect 40-year-old Volkswagen Golf with less than 1200 kilometers of mileage will be auctioned in the UK. The 1980 diesel hatchback was out of service for the first fifteen years and was first registered in 1999. The five-door has been in a private collection for more than twenty years and is now looking for a third owner.

The first owner bought the first generation Volkswagen Golf in 1980 in reserve. The man already had an early white diesel Golf, and the Briton thought he didn’t mind switching to the exact same car when the first car began to break down and required an update. However, the white Golf proved to be very tenacious, and by 1995 it became clear that it was a pity to start operating the “time capsule”.

In 1999, the green Golf GLD was registered for the first time, and almost immediately the owner of the hatchback changed – it was a British collector. For the next 20 years, the car practically did not drive, because on the odometer it was only 738 miles (1187 kilometers). Both the body and the velor interior are perfectly preserved, rust spots are noticeable only on consumables, such as a muffler.

Under the hood of the first generation Volkswagen Golf GLD is a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter diesel engine with 50 horsepower (80 Nm). The motor is combined with a 4-speed manual transmission, the drive is on the front axle.

The version with a 50-horsepower diesel engine is one of the slowest in the range, because the hatchback exchanges the first hundred in 19 seconds, but the fuel consumption of 6.5 liters per 100 kilometers will be the envy of more modern golf-class models.

Used Volkswagen Golfs of the first generation in Europe cost around 1000 euros, but a completely original copy with such a low mileage will be much more expensive. Trading will take place on November 13-14 at the Silverstone Auctions platform.
