2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC captured in testsAugust 27, 2020
The journalists have published “spy” photos and a video showing a prototype of the updated Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class crossover. The debut of new items is expected no earlier than 2022.
Despite the fact that Mercedes recently introduced an updated version of the compact crossover GLC-Class, work is now in full swing on the creation of a completely new generation of the model. “Spy” photos showing a camouflaged prototype of the novelty show that significant changes in the appearance of the crossover are coming. The test car was seen on public roads.
However, one thing that disguise cannot hide is the size of the car. It looks larger than the current version of the crossover, although we won’t know its true size until Mercedes tells us about it.
The younger GLB SUV offers three rows of seats for seven seats, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Mercedes does the same for the larger next-generation GLC.
A camouflage lining hides the shape of the entire front of the novelty. Non-production headlights frame a white mesh where the false grille should be located. The same goes for the rear, with temporary taillights and a lot of camouflage to hide any exterior details. On the sides, we can see the side mirrors located lower on the body – now they are shifted from the A-pillars. It also appears that the doorknobs on the doors have been moved much lower.
The next generation GLC will be built on an updated version of the modular rear architecture that also underpins the updated C-Class. The crossover is in its early stages of development, so details on the composition of the motor range are still sparse, although we expect a variety of hybrids to emerge, from mild hybrid configurations to plug-in hybrid variants.
We do not know when to expect the debut of the new product, although, most likely, this will not happen until 2022.
