2017 Opel Insignia officially unveiledDecember 7, 2016
After the leak of photos of the new generation Insignia, Opel decided to formally unveil the model, called Grand Sport. The new flagship is much larger predecessor, and is equipped with advanced support systems.
As promised, Insignia made in the image of Opel Monza concept. It turned out well, design has become quite strict. According to representatives of GM’s, a new image and higher-quality materials and advanced equipment list will bring new Insignia to a new level: now the model will compete not only with the Ford Mondeo or Skoda Superb, also with the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-class.
The new Insignia is built on E2XX platform, which is already used in the Chevrolet Malibu. Compared to its predecessor, the car became longer by five millimeters (to 4899 millimeters), gauge line became wider by 11 millimeters, the roof was lower by 29 millimeters, and the wheelbase has increased by 92 mm (to 2829 mm). The car body became about 60 kilograms lighter than before, and the weight depending on the modification reduced by 175 kilograms.
The drag coefficient of 0.26 – a cause for pride, because few cars can boast of such a magnitude. Among them is Jaguar XE and Nissan GT-R.
FlexRide adaptive chassis with Standard, Sport and Tour settings change suspension and steering modes, automatic transmission and the stabilization system, also feedback from the accelerator. In this case, the car incorporated elements of self-study (it evaluates driving style of the owner). Furthermore, it is possible to select aggregates of individual settings and save them under the same Sport button.
For the model announced a new eight-speed automatic transmission and intelligent all-wheel drive system on the basis of two electronically controlled clutches that replace mechanical differential in the rear axle.
About the engine range is no information, however, before it was known that the Insignia will be equipped with 164-horsepower 1.5-liter turbo engine, the two-liter engine producing 250 hp and 1.6- and 2.0-liter diesel engines, issued before 110 hp.
A complete world premiere of liftback will be held in the spring at the Geneva Motor Show, where Opel is going to show the whole family there once – hatchback, sedan and wagon.
