150 Volkswagen employees test new ID.3June 23, 2020
Electric hatchbacks will be tested in real conditions.
The German automaker has reserved a fleet of 150 copies of VW electric cars ID.3 for company employees at factories in Zwickau, Chemnitz and Dresden. Worker and volunteer test drivers were chosen by a lucky chance. They will ride on the new electric cars from Volkswagen ID.3, not yet equipped with the final software.
Test models will receive regular updates at this point until they begin shipping to customers in early September.
“Comprehensive driving profiles ahead of the launch of ID.3 in the European market are extremely important to us and offer additional potential for optimization,” – said Thomas Ulbrich, Volkswagen Board of Directors member on Electronic Mobility. “To this is added a very personal feedback from our employees. This means that our team in Zwickau not only builds ID.3 according to the highest quality standards, but also actively helps in the further development of technologies and electric vehicles. ”
Volkswagen has already announced that order books for ID.3 will be open in mid-July to the general public. Customers who have already placed a pre-order for a limited edition First Edition model will be given two options: either get their car delivered in early September with some features disabled, or choose a later delivery date in the fourth quarter of the year with all the features online.
VW had difficulties with various software issues during the development of ID.3, but the company promises that everything will be settled by the end of the year. Customers who decide to become the first owners of electric ID.3 in September this year will also become members of the ID.3 1st Mover Club, giving them direct contact with VW. In addition, they will not pay any rental rates for the first three months – if they take on a new car.
Ultimately, VW ID.3 will be offered with three sizes of batteries. A basic unit with a capacity of 45 kWh with a range of 330 km, a battery with a capacity of 58 kWh with a range of 420 km and an option with a maximum capacity of 77 kWh with a range of 550 km.
