10 coolest cars of James May
July 14, 2019James May always boldly, but delicately talked about the cars he tested on Top Gear and The Grand Tour programs for almost two decades. Restraint is his style of narration, and most of all in cars he values luxury, unlike the emotional Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson, who is in constant search.
May, like Clarkson, rarely talks about his cars, but according to statements in his broadcasts, scant information in the media and social networks managed to make an inventory of his garage. We don’t know what cars were bought by an anchorman lately and which of the described ones are still in his possession, but judging by the information gathered, May loves Italian metal.
Vauxhall Cavalier Mk1
While Mae rode a Ferrari for years, his first TV host, the 1978 Vauxhall Cavalier Mk1, modestly stood in his garage. This car, according to James himself, had stolen wheel covers, and the back door was a different color. On the car, the TV star does not pull, but it was from him that Mr. May’s car adventures began.

Alfa Romeo 164
This luxury sedan, produced from 1987 to 1997, was an everyday car used by James to drive to and from work. He loved his Alpha so much that for shooting one of the episodes, Top Gear bought another one, with a 3-liter V6 engine, and paid less than £ 1,000 for it.

MINI 1275 GT
Some say that James May bought a MINI overcook. This MINI 1275 GT Special is so small that it looks more like a toy than a real car. All we know is that Mei bought a baby with a checkered roof and additional headlights on the front bumper.

Ferrari F430
In the early years of his work at Top Gear, Mae never hid that he was dreaming of a Ferrari. In the end, he got a brand new sports car F430, which was incredibly happy. May describes the car as “magic” of enormous power, combining speed and ease of driving. That is, he described until he acquired 458 Speciale.

Ferrari 458 Speciale
Nicknamed Captain Slow (Captain Slow), which he received during the filming of Top Gear, perfect for James May! Imagine – he thought so long and decided whether to buy a Ferrari 458 Speciale for him, that they simply ended, and when he came to the dealership, there was not a single copy of this car for sale. In the end, he still somehow managed to buy a sports car, but history is silent about that.

FIAT Panda
How did Panda get here? How? This is for May, to all appearances, a very valuable car, not unlike a different Porsche or Ferrari. And it’s not a joke. Captain Slow went for many years on a small FIAT – until 2014, until the car just died.

BMW i3
Unlike Jeremy Clarkson, James May loves electric cars. One of his cars for every day is the BMW i3, which, by the way, replaced the beloved Panda.

1984 Porsche 911
James May owned several Porsches, but riding on it gave him the most pleasure – the classic Porsche 911 Carrera air-cooled engine made in 1984. May repeatedly stated: “This is the best car I have ever bought.”

Rolls-Royce Phantom
Rolls-Royce Phantom is one of the most luxurious cars ever produced. Under the hood is a powerful biturbo V12 engine with a capacity of 563 hp, which is enough for lightning acceleration of this luxury cruiser. One day, May joked that he likes to take the Ghost if he needs to meet friends at the airport.

Saab 9–5 Aero
The Saab 9–5 Aero has been a strong competitor for luxury German sedans for years, such as the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6. Aero was the most powerful version, equipped with a turbocharged 260-horsepower engine, and it was quite a practical choice.
