We have already seen this on the older Cayenne and Panamera of current generations, and more recently on the new 911. In addition to navigating with detailed maps and voice control functions, the system can exchange information with other Porsche cars, and warn the driver in advance about an accident or repair of the road.
Due to the huge display of the multimedia complex, the air deflectors on the center console became horizontal and moved downwards, but this did not affect the efficiency of the climate control system. The dashboard remained unchanged, but the steering wheel is now more compact, although it resembles the former both in design and in the arrangement of buttons. By the way, about the buttons. Their number in the Macan saloon has not decreased at all, and all of them are mainly located on the central tunnel.
The line of power units has also changed. Basic Macan is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo four with optimized geometry of the combustion chambers. In the European specification, the engine is equipped with a diesel particulate filter, due to which its power has decreased to 245 horsepower.
Macan S shares a new V6 with a volume of 3.0 liters with the Cayenne and Panamera. Motor recoil increased by a conditional 14 liters. with. and 20 Nm, which feel is almost impossible to drive. But the boost system has changed significantly. Instead of two turbochargers in the previous engine, the new unit has a single turbine in the collapse of the cylinder block. And this was done not so much to improve the technical characteristics, but to care about the ecology. Although the acceleration to a hundred still decreased by one tenth.
In the chassis there were no special surprises. Why change something that works so well? The suspension is traditionally tuned with greater bias towards handling. Especially obviously, if not strange, it is felt on the version with a 2.0-liter engine. In every turn, you are sorely lacking in dynamics – so boldly a compact crossover writes trajectories. Unlock the full potential of the chassis can only powerful V6. However, such an alignment of forces is valid except during intensive driving somewhere in the mountains. After all, a measured urban rhythm allows you to make a choice in favor of a more accessible version without any remorse.
Find what to improve in the chassis, Porsche engineers, of course, could. In the front suspension, the lower pillars of the pillars are now aluminum, the anti-roll bars have become slightly tougher, and the two-chamber air bellows have changed in volume. But to feel it in real life is even more difficult than to catch the differences in dynamics.
Porsche engineers are not tired of proving that the best is not the enemy of the good, but its logical continuation. Despite rising prices, the Macan is still the most affordable Porsche on the market. And for someone – a great opportunity to get acquainted with the legendary brand.
