New Lexus IS debuts on June 9June 1, 2020
Next week, the Japanese premium brand will remove covers from the new Lexus IS.
We recently said goodbye to the Lexus GS, but the Lexus IS sports sedan will continue its life cycle with a major update for the 2021 model. The current generation Lexus IS has been on the market since 2013, which makes it very outdated compared to its new competitors such as the BMW 3 Series, Genesis G70 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, so it is time for an update. Next week, June 9, Lexus will be late to introduce its new product.
Lexus originally intended to introduce the IS 2021 model year at the 2020 New York Auto Show, but its debut was delayed after the event was canceled. Lexus claims that the updated design of IS will make everyone “tremble” when the covers are removed.
The first official teaser image of the Lexus IS in 2021 underlines its new narrow taillights, stretched across the entire width, which, no doubt, will make the updated sedan look more stylish than the outgoing model. In addition, it seems that this sedan got a wider rear track, setting the new IS in a “sports stance”.
It is difficult to discern other stylistic features in the dark image. With the discontinuation of the Lexus GS, the new Lexus IS is expected to adopt a more premium design. Recent style changes for models such as the Lexus LS 500 will also be carried forward, including a softer grille and tuned LED headlights. Inside, the infotainment system is also expected to be reviewed and finally supported by Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
It is rumored that the Lexus IS in 2021 will move to a new rear-wheel drive platform jointly developed by Mazda, but since this is not a completely new model, it is more likely to move on the same 2013 New N platform that it has used until then. Lexus is said to have retuned the chassis and suspension to improve handling.
Engine options for the new Lexus IS should be carried forward, including a 241-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. and torque of 350 Nm, as well as a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 311 hp. and 376 Nm. According to preliminary information, the IS 500 lineup will join the American line using a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8.
