Mercedes-Benz will produce cars in FranceMay 19, 2018
Mercedes-Benz is expanding its production facilities in Europe for the production of electric vehicles. At the plant in French Ambach will be assembled compact electric vehicle under the new subbrand EQ.
Mercedes-Benz Cars plans to launch more than ten electric vehicles by 2022 in all segments, from smart to large crossover. The company suggests that by 2025 the share of electric vehicles will be 15-25% of the total sales of Mercedes-Benz. Under the brand smart since 2020 will be sold only electric cars. It will be the first automobile brand in the world, completely switched from ICE to electric motors.
To prepare for the production of Mercedes-Benz cars, about 500 million euros will be invested in the Ambach factory. Recall, now there are already produced two electric cars – a coupe smart EQ fortwo and a smart EQ fortwo convertible, so that the experience of assembling cars of this type is already available.
Preparation for production will begin in the near future. Investments will be directed to the construction of new production facilities, including a new body shop and a primary surface treatment shop.
Recall, in March, Mercedes-Benz reported the final stage of testing the crossover EQC. In April, it became known that in the EQ lineup there will be a luxury model with a similar current flagship S-Class concept. Most likely, it will be called EQS.
