Lunar vehicle from Toyota built on the basis of the serial modelJuly 17, 2019
The company plans to build the first test prototype by 2022.
The automaker Toyota and the Japanese aerospace agency JAXA signed a three-year cooperation agreement, under which a manned mobile home will be designed to study the surface of the moon. The basis of the moon rover will lay the serial model of the company.
During the press conference, representatives of the companies announced that no work on the creation of a prototype would be conducted until the end of this year: specialists will fully concentrate on drawing up detailed technical requirements and tasks, and from 2020, full-scale work on the Lunar vehicle will begin. The first test prototype, of course, will only be for testing on Earth, his company plans to complete by 2022.
The experimental sample will be created on the basis of the Toyota model series – it will become a smaller copy of the future moon rover. The final option, which will go to the moon, will be the size of a small size bus. It will be six meters long, 5.2 meters wide, and 3.8 meters high. In the cockpit will organize a living compartment area of 13 square meters, which will accommodate two astronauts.
The first prototype, ready to be sent to the moon, is planned to be built by 2027. JAXA, the Japanese aerospace agency, wants astronauts to work on the moon for six weeks, and the moon rover can travel a thousand kilometers. In addition, the residential cabin will be equipped with an oxygen supply system so that the astronaut does not have to spend all six weeks in space suits.
