KIA introduced the new generation K5 sedanJuly 1, 2020
That modification will be intended for the North American market. In some countries, the business sedan is known as Optima.
Korean automaker KIA has fully unveiled the new generation K5 large sedan. Official photos and details about the new product were published on Wednesday, June 1. The main innovation was the transition to the new N3 platform, on which the new generation Hyundai Sonata sedan is built. Due to this, the dimensions of the car have increased – now they are 4905x1859x1445 mm, and the distance between the axles reaches 2,850 mm.
KIA said that the main advantage of the new platform was improved handling, which reached a whole new level. Externally, the car is in many ways similar to the updated version for the South Korean market – in the front part, the central place is occupied by the radiator grill, which looks very organically together with Z-shaped headlights.
However, the sedan also has distinctive features – mainly they relate to the interior. In particular, in the USA it will not be possible to get a digital dashboard even for a surcharge, as can be done in Korea. In the American car market, the car will receive a classic gearshift lever instead of a swivel washer, as well as an updated climate control unit, which uses selective washers instead of keys.
The interior of the car was finished with quality materials – Alcantara and artificial leather are used for the seats. Depending on the configuration, customers will be able to count on an infotainment display with a screen of 8 or 10.25 inches. The novelty has received a package of modern security systems already in the basic version – we note the presence of emergency braking systems, frontal collision warning, pedestrian recognition and lane control. For an additional fee, you can purchase adaptive cruise control and a blind spot monitoring system.
In the US market, the KIA K5 will be presented exclusively with turbocharged engines – the base will be a 1.6-liter engine with a return of 183 hp, which works in tandem with 8-speed automatic transmission. Also, for an extra charge, you can purchase an all-wheel drive option. But the main innovation will be the K5 GT version with a new 2.5-liter turbo engine, which will make such a modification the most powerful for this model. Its maximum power reaches 294 hp, and it works in tandem with an 8-band “robot”. Due to this combination, excellent dynamics are achieved – up to 97 km / h the car accelerates in 5.8 seconds.
New items will be launched at a plant in the United States. Versions with front-wheel drive will go on sale before the end of summer, the GT modification will have to wait until the fall, and all-wheel drive options will debut closer to the end of the year.
