BMW has transformed the set of spare parts M Performance into an ultra-lightweight coupe M2July 12, 2018
The company BMW has introduced a concept car called BMW M Performance Parts. The novelty is an armored version of the M2 sports car, equipped with practical all available original parts from the updated M Performance catalog. Due to the use of carbon fiber and a new battery, the weight of the car was reduced by 60 kilograms.
The sports car BMW M Performance Parts has a carbon grille and a hood. The last one is eight kilograms lighter than the standard part. The wings (-3 kg), the wing tips on the front bumper and skirts are also made of carbon fiber. It made a roof, which allowed to throw another six kilograms.
Carbon boot lid, diffuser, and new forged 19-inch wheels in total are lighter than standard components at 11.5 kilograms. At the same time, they are not only designed to reduce the weight of the sports coupe, but also to improve its aerodynamics.
However, the list of updates is not limited only to carbon fiber details: the concept M2 is equipped with a new suspension with adjustable ride height, compression ratio and rebound (12 and 16 settings respectively), and a battery that is 14 kilograms lighter than usual.
Data on the power plant manufacturer does not. Probably, this is a three-liter twin-turbo six S55, as in the usual M2 Competition. The unit produces 410 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque and can be combined with a six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed robotic transmission with two clutches. From zero to 100 km/h BMW M2 Competition is capable to be dispersed for 4,2 seconds (4,4 seconds with a manual gearbox). The maximum speed is 250 kilometers per hour.
