BMW decided to take an annual fee for Apple CarPlayJanuary 17, 2018
BMW intends to turn the CarPlay system next year, which allows integrating Apple’s smartphone into the car’s multimedia system, into a subscription service. This is reported by The Verge with reference to the manager for technological products of the brand Don Smith.
Now Apple CarPlay is an option for which you need to pay 300 dollars. It is only available for vehicles equipped with an integrated navigation system. Since 2019, owners will have to pay 80 dollars a year to access the system. According to Smith, this will allow users to easily switch from iOS to Android devices.
Also in future updates on the brand cars will appear voice assistants Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
With the options of various subscriptions, other manufacturers are experimenting. The North American division of Porsche offered to subscribe to a service, through which it is possible to use different models of the brand within a month.
And the company Volvo simultaneously with the presentation of the crossover XC40 introduced the service Care by Volvo – the evolutionary development of carsharing and leasing. He suggests not abuying a car, but making monthly payments for it, covering not only the cost of the car, but also insurance and taxes.
